  1. A wonderful start to the festive season
Have just returned from a long weekend at Harmony Homestay and can’t quite believe how much we crammed into a 4 night stay. Only 6 hours by train from Derby with a quick change at Plymouth and straight through on the way home. We managed a trip to St Austell Brewery and the Tavistock Dickensian Christmas Market on the Friday. Shopping in St Ives (lots of special events on including Santa arriving by lifeboat) and the switching on of the Mevagissey Christmas lights on Saturday. A trip to Falmouth followed by an evening visit to the Eden Project to experience the festival of light and sound on Sunday. A flying experience at Bodmin airfield on Monday morning to see Cornwall from the air and a visit to Fowey in the afternoon. All topped off by an evening visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan for late night shopping accompanied by the wonderful local choir Notability (including our host Charlie in fine voice). The public transport links were excellent even in December and only 5 minutes walk from Harmony to the bus and train station makes it the ideal location even without a car. Charlie and Nigel are wonderful hosts and we have already booked to stay again next year to experience Mevagissey Feast Week

We have stayed in all the rooms and they are very well equipped and spotlessly clean.

  2. A birthday surprise
Heading down to Cornwall – my birthplace – for my Dad’s 80th birthday celebrations, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I always stay with family – what I got was a warm welcome, a spotless, dust free spacious quiet room, extremely well appointed, with a large ensuite and instant hot water, plus a lovely filling breakfast. Vegetarians are well catered for!

  3. All the pleasures of home.
St Austell is well situated as a base to explore Cornwall. Harmony Homestay offered great accomodation, fabulous breakfast and local knowledge to help us with our stay in Cornwall. Charlie and Nigel were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. Nigel was happy to help us plan our travels and Charlie provided us with a great breakfast to start the day. A very hospitable couple. Would recommend and definitely would stay there again on our next trip.

  4. Our Cornish Gem
We enjoy this part of Cornwall and have been looking for a new base since our previous B&B closed due to the owners retiring.
Good location and close to main transport links, not that you are aware of the main roads etc. whilst there! Our stay at Harmony Homestay was very comfortable – Charlie and Nigel are wonderful hosts and we were very well looked after. Next visit is already booked and it can’t come quickly enough!

  5. Having spent 7 Days with the guys at Harmony Homestay we both would not hesitate to
Recommend this wonderful B & B to anyone for many reasons. Charlie and Nigel
Were the most attentive and thoughtful Hosts anyone could wish for . From the moment we arrived we were encouraged
To use their home as our home . Charlie produced the most amazing breakfasts to set us up for the day and Nigel’s knowledge of the District added to our unforgettable stay. Our great stay
    Was June 2017

  7. Just returned from our 4th visit to Harmony, once again we had a fantastic time. Nigel and Charlie are the perfect hosts, they make their guests so welcome, Nigel has such a massive amount of local knowledge of the best places to go to get the most out of their stay, and Charlie provides a superb breakfast. We had a truly delightful stay and will definitely be returning again nect year,
Thank you both so very much.

  8. We loved being here so much we extended our holiday and only wish we could have stayed the whole time, but alas other people want to stay here too! It’s easily the best B&B we have ever stayed in, with a huge bed, spotless bathroom and plenty of space. The welcome is second to none, Charlie’s breakfast is delicious and plentiful, and Nige’s information sheets on places to go and how to get there are great. We had a great night out with them too, an unexpected treat. It’s truly a wonderful place to stay, accommodation that exceeds the standards you’d expect for the reasonable price, but a real home too so that you feel instantly relaxed. We visited beautiful gardens, had long walks and good meals at country pubs. Wish we could have stayed for a month!

  9. I want to keep this wonderful B&B to myself for selfish reasons. If you like to be welcomed as a long lost friend where nothing is too much bother then this is the place for you! However, if you like the impersonal then the Premier Inn is where you need to go……We will be back, nothing was too much bother from the cup of tea with homemade cake when we arrived to the lift into the neighbouring hamlet with reccomendations about where to go for a meal. The accomodation was sparkling clean and comfortable with all possible needs thought about from the placing of the mirror so you could dry and straighten your hair. The breakfast was heavenly, it beat me but I wished I could finish it. Charlie and Nige were so welcoming that we felt like we had made new friends. Please don’t all rush to visit, we want to go back! Thank you Charlie and Nige. We loved our stay and we know where we will be coming to stay when we next come down to my second home. Helen xx
Room Tip: Lovely quiet B&B with fantastic hosts.

  10. Loved the Harmony Homestay and the superb hosts Nigel and Charlie. Above and beyond service w/daily planned itineraries provided by resident expert, Nigel w/directions for off the beaten path walks, gardens, anything we wanted to see!
Delicious made to order full English Breakfst every morning provided by Charlie.
Beautifully presented Cornish cream tea on arrival. Spotlessly clean accommodations, comfortable beds, crisp linens and fresh flowers in our room. These hosts are enthusiastic about their endeavor and it is reflected in everything they do. They enjoy their guests and want to assure travelers to their beautiful corner of the world enjoy their visit. Charlie and Nige make a great team! Their home was right off the main road, easy to find, short walk to train station. Reasonable rates for quality of accommodation and excellent service provided.
I’ve told all my friends, if traveling to Cornwall, this is the place to stay!!!
Room Tip: We were in Pol, good views of fields across road

  11. Stay number 6 with Charlie & Nigel and it never loses its charm. Earlier than usual arrival time meant savoury instead of sweet scones with our pot of tea and they are honestly better than any others we have tasted. Room spotless as usual and nothing too much trouble for the boys.

  12. Another great break with the guys at Harmony Homestay in St Austell. Charlie & Nige again gave us a warm welcome to immaculately clean, comfortable and well maintained B&B accommodation. The food was good and plentiful – Charlie’s excellent Full English kept us going all day (he also makes the best cheese scones) – and the light & airy rooms offered plenty of space to relax (and stash our shopping).

Harmony is a great base if you want to get around, it’s a 10 minute walk from the railway station and in 4 days we managed to pull in trips to Mazey Day in Penzance plus Marazion, Fowey, Mevagissey and St Ives – all on public transport (and all on time!). We’d travelled to Cornwall by train and Nige collected us and returned us to the station on arrival and departure – & the boys are a mine of information about the local area, events and attractions. Nothing is too much trouble. Also, if you’re so inclined you can join Nige at the Scottish Country Dancing group on Monday evening (a friendly and welcoming bunch to say the least!)

If you make a visit to Harmony you will be well fed, well looked after and well entertained. And you will want to go back!

Harmony Homestay is the epitome of hospitality, and we can’t wait for our next visit!

  13. Our 2nd stay with Charlie and Nige. We stayed on Pol, a large clean room kept very tidy by the hosts. The bed was big and comfy and I was extra glad of the rotating fan as felt too hot on some of the nights. We were centrally placed to see parents on the South coast and the waves on the North. The breakfasts were large (cooked + cereal + yoghurt + fruit juice + tea/coffee + toast), cooked to order (fried / scrambled / poached etc) and can set you up for the whole day.

While we had our own agenda, you can involve yourself as little or as much with the boys’ suggestions as you please, they told us what they were up to (dance / theatre / fly past…) and we were welcome to follow along if we wanted. Nigel’s tip for where to valet the car was particularly useful.

Thanks for a lovely and relaxing stay and sure we will see you again soon! xx

  14. We had a really great time at Harmony Homestay! The only downside was we could not stay longer! We hate it when our jobs get in the way of a truly good time! The accommodations were absolutely first rate. The hosts, Nigel and Charlie have an almost unlimited knowledge of the area, the history, architecture and general background and would put university professors to shame. We had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before so were unsure what to expect – we were not disappointed. The only sad part is now we are ruined for other B&B’s – not one can match their eye for detail, their unfailing pursuit to be the best possible hosts or their overall genuine kindness; we felt like we were staying with family. They prepared a full English Breakfast everyday which sets you up with plenty of stores for the day! We will most assuredly travel back to Cornwall in the near future and will absolutely stay here again.
